What we do

Three ways we are called in.

Most clients come to us through a Benchmarx branch with a kitchen already designed. What varies is how much of the room has to change before it can go in.

Kitchen installation

Your kitchen, fitted. Carcasses levelled and packed off the wall, worktops scribed to the plaster, doors set to an even shadow gap, appliances tested and the site left clean each evening.

Full kitchen renovation

Strip out, floors, first and second fix electrics and plumbing, plastering and decoration — then the kitchen. One programme, one contract, one person to ring.

Structural work

Knocking two rooms together, forming an opening or building a side return. Designed, calculated by an engineer and built by us, finished and dry before the units arrive.

Why Tenon

Most fitters start when the room is ready. We make the room ready.

A kitchen fitter who only hangs doors has to wait for someone else to move the wall, chase the walls and patch the ceiling — and when it goes wrong, each trade blames the one before. We hold the whole job, so the sequence is ours to get right.

How it works

Five stages, in this order.

The order matters more than anything else in a kitchen job. This is the sequence we hold to, and the point at which each decision has to be made.

Survey

We measure the room, find the services and tell you what will not work — before you place the order.

Programme

A dated plan of the works, the trades involved and the days you will be without a kitchen.

Preparation

Strip out, structural work, first fix electrics and plumbing, floor levelling, plastering.

Installation

Carcasses, worktops, doors and drawers, appliances, splashbacks, sealing and second fix.

Snag and handover

We walk the room with you, list what is outstanding, finish it and hand over the paperwork.

What we are actually judging.

A kitchen is bought on the doors and lived with on the details. These are the things we check before we call a room finished.

Questions

The things people ask first.

Do I buy the kitchen, or do you?

Benchmarx supplies the trade rather than the public, so the kitchen is ordered on a trade account. We can order it on yours through us, or work alongside a kitchen you have already specified with a branch designer.

How long does a kitchen take?

A straight replacement in an unchanged room is usually a one to two week fit. Once walls move, or floors and services change, the programme is set at survey and given to you in writing before anything is ordered.

How long will I be without a kitchen?

Longer than the fit itself, because the room has to be stripped and prepared first. We tell you the exact days at programme stage and can set up a temporary run with a sink where the layout allows.

Do you do the electrics and plumbing?

Yes. Electrical work is certified and notified where it needs to be, and gas work is carried out by a registered engineer. You get the certificates at handover.

Do you work outside London?

We work across London and into the home counties. If you are further out, ask — it depends on the size of the job and the branch you are working with.

What happens if something is wrong afterwards?

You get a written installation guarantee covering our workmanship, separate from the manufacturer warranty on the units and appliances. One number to call, and we come back.
